The day of the funeral is significant, and at Bridgefold Independent Funeral Service, we are committed to ensuring everything runs smoothly so you can focus on saying your goodbyes. Here is a guide to what you can expect on the day of the funeral.

Step 1: Arrival at the Home or Meeting Place

On the day of the funeral, our team will arrive at your home or designated meeting place at the agreed time. This could be your home, or your loved ones home, or another meaningful location. If you wish, we can arrange a traditional paging from your loved ones home, where the funeral director will lead the cortege on foot as a mark of respect.

Step 2: The Funeral Procession

If required a funeral procession can be arranged with the Hearse leading the way followed by family and friends in a limousine or using their own transport. The route can include places of significance such as a childhood home or a favourite place and we ensure the route and timings are communicated clearly to everyone involved.

Step 3: Arrival at the Venue

Upon arrival at the chosen venue, whether a church, crematorium, or another location, our team will guide you through the next steps. The coffin will be carried by pallbearers, who may be family members, friends, or our staff. Any special tributes, such as flowers or personal items, will be displayed according to your wishes.

Step 4: The Funeral Service

The funeral service is the heart of the day, bringing family and friends together to honour the loved one. This service may include hymns, readings, eulogies, and prayers, depending on your preferences and cultural or religious traditions. Our team will manage all arrangements, ensuring everything runs smoothly, from seating to audio-visual needs.

Step 5: The Committal

The committal follows the service. For a burial, this occurs at the graveside, where the coffin is lowered into the ground. Committal for a cremation takes place at the crematorium. This is a deeply emotional moment, often marked by final words, prayers, or the placing of flowers. Our team will be there to support you throughout.

Step 6: Leaving the Venue

After the committal, guests will be invited to leave the venue. Our team will ensure this is done respectfully and efficiently. Family members may wish to greet attendees or receive condolences at this time. Floral tributes can also be viewed during this period.

Step 7: The Wake or Reception

Many families choose to hold a wake or reception after the funeral service. This is an opportunity for family and friends to gather, share memories, and offer support. Whether held at a local venue or a family home, we can help organise this gathering to ensure it is a fitting tribute to your loved one.

Step 8: After the Funeral

In the days following the funeral, there may be further arrangements to consider. We remain available to assist with these tasks and can also guide you toward bereavement support services if needed.
